Live Long ... And Go See Star Trek
I saw the new Star Trek movie tonight at what seemed to be a sold out show. As an aside, what is with groups of people showing up for a new movie that they know tons of people are going to be at just a few minutes before it starts and expecting to find seats together? People are idiots. Anywho, I really enjoyed the movie. The opening sequence was stunning, moving and exciting. Becoming emotionally invested in characters you were JUST introduced to is a testament to good movie making. The film was just plain entertaining. I've never been a fan of the series or the other movies. It's not that I hated them, I just never got into them. I like my sci-fi on the more realistic tip. A sprinkling of comedy is great but cheese and sci-fi don't really do it for me. This movie definitely gave a number of nods to the series and there was something very heartwarming about seeing Leonard Nimoy as Spock. But it was definitely a new Star Trek. And I look forward to seeing more of it... as long as J.J. Abrams is involved. Good stuff.
