Political Roundup

Jesse Ventura has always been a blowhard. And when he was governor of my fair state he loved dishing out criticisms of things he didn't like but was lousy at taking it himself, clearly getting defensive and unwilling to answer questions. I think that's a serious character flaw. That being said, I love that he called Norm Coleman a hypocrite on Larry King Live tonight. It needs to be said more often.

"He never does what he says," Ventura remarked. "He said on Election Night [in 2008], when he won, that Franken should drop out and he should be the senator. Well, the same should hold true after the recount."

Ventura was referring to when Coleman went before supporters on the day after the election and urged Franken to waive his right to a recount, saying that the prospect of changing the result was remote, that a recount would be costly to taxpayers and "I just think the need for the healing process is so important." More than six months and $12 million in lawyer costs later, we still don't have a senator.

I have little respect for most politicians. They say one thing and do another at the drop of a hat as long as it serves their purpose. And Coleman is a shining example of the smarmy side of politicians. The man lost one election to a former wrestler (Ventura) and now he might lose to a comic (Franken.) I guess he'd rather be a hypocrite than a punchline. Hence the fight he told Franken he shouldn't fight.
