I'm not sure how I had never heard about this building until last week (seeing as it's been under construction since 2004) but it is a frightening thing to see. Opening just this week, the Burj Khalifa Tower is over 1000 feet taller than the previous tallest building in the world, at 2,717 feet. It was originally planned to best that structure by 33 feet but those plans were revised as the building was being constructed (which seems like an awful idea to me!). Can this building really support all this extra weight? I guess it can, but man, seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Has shades of the Titanic written on it to me.
This building is 160 stories, 50 stories more than the Sears Tower in Chicago and has more square footage than any other building. Seeing it absolutely tower over the rest of Dubai is a strange sight. People are going to LIVE in this building. That would scare the crap out of me. In this day and age I can't imagine this building's height will be surpassed anytime soon. &1.5 billion dollars worth of vacant real estate, haha.
