People I'd Like To See Far Less Of In 2011.

All you need to do is see his recent 9 minute stage rant about what a tortured soul he is and how wrongfully he is picked on and how selling 500,000+ copies of his new album vindicates him to see what a pompous, wildly out of touch, and pathetic figure he is. But Kayne, when you constantly do and say stupid things, over and over and over again, people have a right not to like you. And I am totally unswayed by anyone that claims he is some sort of music genius. Simply sampling beats from superior artists (see Ray Charles, Daft Punk, Bon Iver) does not a genius make you. Oh but his lyrics are so insighftful! Really? Sample lyrics: "She find pictures in my email, I sent this girl a picture of my dick, I don't know what it is with females, But I'm not too good with that shit." Wow, so impressive.

Who knew the ire of a Kanye West rant would, herself, land on my list? I felt terrible for Taylor Swift when West destroyed her award-winning moment. But Swift was everywhere in 2010. Every song from her new album charted on the Billboard Hot 100. She sold over a million copies of the album in it's first week (something most prognosticators never imagined would happen again). And that would be admirable if 1) her songs didn't all sound the same... mopey little guitar-plucked tunes about the boys she probably never got past first base with and 2) she could actually sing live. Her reed thin voice is always flat when she performs and seeing the great Stevie Nicks lower herself to duet with Swift was painful. People would apparently line up to buy anything you put out, Taylor. How about trying something new? Or better yet, take a break.

I don't believe there is a right wing pundit I despise more than Glenn Beck. Actually, there is one... Ann Coulter. But I've been able to avoid her blatantly inflammatory, vicious rhetoric lately so I'm going to focus on the much higher profile, Beck. He may just be a more destructive force than Coulter. It's clear she just wants to incite anger. What Beck wants to incite is real change. He wants his white, conservative listeners and viewers to have their uneasy feelings about minorities to be fanned and legitimized. Watch out! 10% of Arab Americans are all terrorists! Congressman Keith Ellison must be "working with our enemies" because he is .... (gasp) Muslim! President Obama is a racist because he doesn't have the same views as Beck and he's... black! He cries for his wayward country, he laments for the 'good old days,' he gesticulates wildly, raising his voice in exasperation. Clearly he must be right because he is so passionate! Well, I find his tactics sickening and his views terrifying. He is a fearmongerer and he plays on the emotions and deep seeded prejudices of his audience. It's, well... unamerican.

These Real Housewives (as opposed to real real housewives that actually have a hand in raising their own kids and running their own households) shows are multiplying like rabbits and populating television with the most vapid, spoiled, detestable people America has to offer. Somehow this is supposed to be entertaining. Surely seeing that someone who is rich and priviledged has problems and drama in their lives too is supposed to make us feel better about ours, right? My problem is that I just don't care about these people. I hate that they exist to begin with and I hate even more that they are being rewarded for being horrible people. Orange County, New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, Washington DC... I get it. There are empty, botox-filled, plastic surgery-ravaged, morally bankrupt rich woman in every city & county. Terrific.

I know my wishes to see less of Sarah Palin in 2011 are a pipe dream. The woman is toying with running for president (an idea that honestly scares the hell out of me). She makes George W. Bush look like Einstein. She's proven she's a quitter. When the going got tough she simply gave up her job as governor. She's proven she's a hypocrite, denouncing the 'bridge to nowhere' when she herself was behind it until the funding fell through. Does she hate gays? You betcha! She goes to a church that tries to 'correct' this vile disorder! She doesn't think teenagers should have any information about sex and (shocker!) her own daughter got pregnant as an unmarried teen. She got said 'teen activist' Bristol on Dancing With The Stars and all her mindless followers voted the 'two left feet 'hoofer into the finals. It's just another example of how little her fans think for themselves. Just like the woman they adore so much... because she's just like them!

Much of what I said about the Housewives pertains to this motley crew of fake-baked, Ed Hardy-clad, morons. The Jersey Shore has given the ironically named MTV their highest rated show and in turn, these directionless, stereotype-reinforcing meatheads and dimwits are now making tens of thousands of dollars per episode. It's yet another example of people in this wonderful post-MySpace society becoming famous for no other reason than they just want to be famous. There isn't one shred of talent to be had here. Like Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, and a host of other reality-stars before them, they've become celebrities because they acted like celebrities before they ever were. I liked MTV when they actually played music. This stuff is just embarrassing.

Look up terms like 'hypocrite' 'sell-out' 'opportunist' and 'flip-flopper' in the dictionary and a picture of John McCain should be shown next to it. I've never seen a politician change his mind on issues more than this man. Whichever way the wind blows, McCain will follow as long as he thinks it will get him elected. It happened first when he ran for president and it happened again when he had to run this year to retain his Senate seat. He truly has changed his mind on every major issue whenever it best suits him. If that's what a 'maverick' is then we need less of them. I can admire a politician that changes their mind on an issue when they become more well informed or when new information comes out to dispel their beliefs. But McCain simply changes his mind when it suits him. And his staunch opposition to the repeal of 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' only solidified his stance as a blatant homophobe. Like the politicians that tried to hold down women, and African Americans before them, McCain will enjoy a legacy of being on the wrong side of history. You're a relic McCain. Take that smug smirk of yours and go away.

I was happy when Chris Brown was getting such a tepid reaction with the music he released post Rihanna-beatdown. There is just no excuse for knocking around your girlfriend. So I was disheartened when the guy started landing Top 10 hits at R&B radio. And now pop radio seems to be warming back up to Mr. Brown. He's got a Top 20 hit there too. Well now comes his homophobic Twitter rant against some little known R&B singer. Using such choice terms as "D*ck in the booty *ss little boy," "Why when the money was coming in you weren't complaining about getting butt-plugged! #homothug!!!" & also calling him "Peter Pan." He of course later said he isn't homophobic but when someone attacks you and the first thing you do as a comeback is start running your mouth with homophobic slurs I'm sorry, I don't buy it. Brown has hopefully reminded people why it was smart to shy away from him to begin with. Please just go away and get some more help, Chris. You need it.
