When everyone I knew had a cell phone, I held out as long as possible. Another phone to pay for? No thanks. But at some point it's rather hard to go out of town on business and not have a phone with you! When everyone I knew had an iPod, I was still using my trusty (or not so trusty) discman at the gym. $300 for a music player? Too steep for me. When everyone I knew had a laptop I stuck with my trusty desktop. A tinier screen and little keyboard? I could do without. When everyone I knew was texting up a storm and upgrading to smart phones I was still on my silly little flip-open cell. Paying extra to sit and tap out messages to my friends all day? Not interested.
Of course I eventually gave in on all these fronts. It happened moreso out of necessity than anything else. Eventually people expect to be able to reach you and communicate with you in certain ways. And when it comes to work, you can't stay in the stone ages so to speak. So tonight I got the smart phone I asked for for Christmas. And now I'll have unlimited text too so it's time to get used to that as well. This should be interesting.
